VA3BEC Barbaree Courtney

Barbaree Courtney VA3BEC, shown here with all three of the 'Canadian's Talking to Canadian's Award' the bronze, silver and gold!  Barbaree did it a different way, instead of getting 300 points for the gold award,  200 for silver, & 100 for bronze!!... she started taking the call sign's, & that was it!  I asked her why, & she replied, ( to much trouble writing all that stuff down! ), I should have known better asking her a question to begin with!

Barbaree is a white caner, and has been since her childhood, her vision was taken at a young age by a disease that left her with very little sight, that didn't stop Barbaree though. She had close loving parent's, sister and brother, of whom did not wait on her hand & foot, although they did try.

I had the privilege of meeting her about 15 years ago in the community of Sarnia / Lampton. She is known & respected by all who know her, including myself & my wife. There isn't to much she can not do, that a fully sighted person can do.
To quote her, " I can drive a car as well, if they move all the other cars & truck's, tree's and building's out of the way."

She visit's people all over this county, some who have recently lost some or all of their sight, showing them & encouraging them, telling  them  life is not over because of this and they can still live a very happy life. She share's with them her story. anything involving the blind, she belongs to and is very, very active in it.

Some year''s back Clifford Seed VE3CLI, ( a silent key  on June 20th. 2003 ) asked her if she would like to be a amateur ( ham )radio operator, she told him she wouldn't have time because of  her busy schedule.  When a few more were asked, & said yes, she said, ok, I will try it.

Now she loves & looks forward to being on the radio even with her  hectic schedule she takes time to play radio!

I could go on & on  telling thing's about this lady, I would be here typing it with one finger & be here a very, very long time.

To all the amateur ( ham ) operators reading this, stop & think for a second or two, roughly how many points there would be in three hundred station's!!! a lot!!!

Great Work Barbaree & Congratulations
