Founder of the Sarnia White Cane
Amateur Radio Club
1926-2003
Picture of Cliff VE3CLI

At high noon and with a smile on his face on Monday January 20, 2003, Cliff Seed age 77, set sail for warmer, calmer waters with smooth, stiff breezes. Cliff was a retired member of the IBEW local 530, as well as a valued member and past director the Sarnia Yacht Club and founder of the Sarnia White Cane Amateur Radio Club (VE3SWC).

Carrying on at the shore captain and loving wife of 52 years, Eloise: 1st mates Geoff, Grace and Barb all of Sarnia, Brian and Megan of Lake Louise. Also on shore are the four capable deck-hands, grandchildren Luke of Lake Louise, Ricky, Megan and Kris all of Sarnia.

Cliff plans to meet up with lost deck-mates from the past and get things ship shape for friends and family coming in the future.

Cliff is survived by his brother Reginald of Armstrong B.C. and was predeceased by sister Patricia and parents Reginald and Amy of Penticton B.C. We do feel it prudent to state to all Amateur Ham Radio Operators who have talked with him over the years that Cliff will be monitoring the net but for now this is Cliff VE3CLI signing off....7-3.

P.S. Sympathy through donations to the Sarnia White Cane Amateur Radio Club, St. Joseph's Palliative Care Unit or the charity of your choice.

A tribute to a fine ham

Cliff Seed (VE3CLI) had a passion for ham radio. A member of the Sarnia/Lampton amateur radio club he spent many evenings and weekends teaching ham radio classes, and giving CW tests, he loved CW and would help anyone get their speed up to pass the test.

Every now & then he would drop in to the Sarnia White Cane Center with his sidekick Chuck (VE3LRJ) for a cup of coffee. He would chew the fat with whoever was there at the time, and would always show up when Barbaree (VA3BEC) brought in some her homemade cookies.

It wasn’t long before he started talking about his one passion, amateur radio. Slowly but surely he had a class together, there was Len (VA3LWM), Donna (VA3DOL), Bruce (VA3LZ), Clayton (VA3CYT), Joan (VA3JHF), Brian (VA3BDD), Darcy (VA3BDE) & Barbaree (VA3BEC.Barbaree's Excellent Cookies). Thanks to Cliff all these people are on Ham Radio & very active. He put antenna's up in the worst kind of weather so Sarnia White Caners could have fun on ham radio, & believe me they always do have fun whenever there's a get together.

Another one of Cliff’s loves was boating, past commodore of the Sarnia Yacht Club he spent many a summer afternoons playing radio from the open waters.

Cliff became a silent key January 20th. 2003 after a big battle with cancer. He never mentioned his illness except when Chuck (VE3LRJ) & I got together. Cliff was one of those rare individuals you meet in life & stay with you forever, a man who would not let boredom be part of his life. Cliff worked in chemical valley as a electrician for over 40 years and is survived by his wife Eliouse, sons Jeff, Brian and daughter Barbara (Barb)

All the good fun events that transpired at the Sarnia White Cane Amateur Radio Club was 100% Cliff's idea, the club would not be there if it were not for Cliff's dedication to seeing people have fun. Everybody in the ham community who knew him, and non-hams as well, will miss him still. I was one of the lucky one's who got to know him personally, he will not be forgotten for a long, long time.

There will be more about Cliff Seed (VE3CLI) in a up coming issue of T.C.A. magazine, keep an eye out for it, & find out just how interesting this man was.

Cliff was the founder of the s.w.c.a.r.c. & bought the call VE3SWC (Sarnia White Caners)
